As you know I have spent the summer in my hometown in Norway. However, when I returned to London a couple of days ago I had to wait in Oslo for six hours for a connecting flight. I used to live there before I moved to London, and I have lots of friends in that city. It was a perfect opportunity to go into central and have lunch with some of my best friends instead of hanging around on the airport!
We went to Funky Fresh Foods close to Grünerløkka. I have been there a couple of times, but this was the first time as a vegan. I must admit, you see vegan places so differently when you actually are vegan! However, it was such a nice place and I loved having lunch there with my friends.
You might have seen it on Instagram already, but I had a really tasty smoked black bean burger with both normal and sweet potato wedges on the side. Served with vegan aioli! I really enjoyed that. To accompany it I ordered a vanilla milkshake which was topped with goji berries. I have always enjoyed having a milkshake with my burgers.. Has anyone ever tried dipping the fries/wedges into the shake? Sounds gross, but the mix of sweet and salty actually makes it really nice.
It happens a lot here. There is the café, and then there is a cute little health food shop section. They also do catering to a variety of clients, as well as a raw cakery providing the possibility to order cakes for events. They have also given out a cookbook called “Grønt” and they do a cooking course which, at the moment, focuses on raw food. Lastly, they have a blog to keep their customers updated on the latest news.
They focus on tasty food that is also healthy, and they use a lot of great ingredients in their cooking. Sustainability and organic produce is highly valued and they clearly aim to reduce their environmental impact as much as possible. Some people associate this with having to compromise the food, but in my opinion the options here are great and really tasty. Both my non-vegan friends seemed to enjoy it as well.
All in all I had a really good time with good friends and great food. I have had a bit too much of those unhealthy treats this summer, so this was a great kick-off to get back to those lovely whole foods. If you ever visit Oslo, going here is definitely a must!
