Trying to settle into my new home I went shopping on Oxford Street to get the essentials for my room. No, I am not a fan of Oxford Street. I believe it is just something that changes when you live in London. However, after hours and hours of walking on that busy street I was on my way to the bus that would take me home, and that was when I came across Vantra. I was starving by that point and decided to have dinner there instead of making it once I got home. Let us be honest, I was tired.
Vantra is a lovely authentic-looking restaurant close to Tottenham Court Road Station. The atmosphere in there kind of makes you feel like you are taken out of London and to a country far far away. I suppose it looks like what I imagine some restaurants would look like in exotic places like Bali. However, there are not any doors, so I do wonder what they do during winter when it is cold outside.
Everything on the menu is vegan, gluten-free and refined sugar-free. They also have lots of raw options. They offer a buffet and á la carte at different times of the day, as well as having a little area for cakes, smoothies, juices, coffee and tea by the till. For the buffet you can either choose to pay by weight or fill up one of the boxes of different sizes for a set price.
I came there during buffet time, and I must say it does have a lot of yummy stuff. Lots of healthy and whole foods! Just beware that, if you are like me, you are going to pack your box or plate with as much as possible from the buffet. Probably with things that does not even go together. In the end my box looked like a pile of mess, but hey, I got to try a lot of different things. It was also very filling, so my tummy was very happy when I left. The best part is that it is not particularly expensive, as healthy food often is nowadays.. From my own experience I would say it was a very decent and student-friendly meal.
Personally I do not think this is a place I would book a table for a bigger group or an event, but it is most definitely a place I would pop by if I was hungry or maybe a great place to have lunch with a friend or two. Nevertheless do I recommend it, especially because I find it has an atmosphere different to other vegan places in London.
